Ageratum - Blue Ball

This is taller than other varieties of Ageratum, bearing large heads of deep blue flowers from July onwards. Blue Ball however lacks hybrid uniformity and grows to a height of about 25cm. This beautiful flower, despite being on the short size, would still make a striking cut flower to have in your home.

Sow from February to April on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in trays or pots. Lightly cover the seed with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or a warm place and keep at a temperature of between 18-21°C. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination which usually takes 7-21 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost has passed 15-20cm apart in well-drained soil in full sun. Flowers from June to October.
