Beetroot Chioggia

£1.25 – £3.85

Beetroot - Chioggia

The ball-shaped, mild and sweet roots of this Italian (1840's) heirloom are resistant to bolting and have light red skin. Cutting open reveals attractive alternating dark pink and white rings (another name is Candy Stripe Beet).

Sow where the plants are to grow, about 1/2 inch deep, 4-6 inches apart, in full sun on a neutral (non-acid) soil. Most "seeds" are really capsules containing multiple seeds, so thinning to single plants is necessary. If thinned gradually, they can be enjoyed as greens. Keep the soil moist.
