WHEN TO SOW
March to April
WHERE TO SOW
Early sowings under glass at 13°C in modules or 7.5cm (3") pots with 2 seeds to each, removing the weaker one as they develop, or in open ground in shallow drills from late March. 1.5cm (3/4") deep in rows 30cm (12") apart.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Prick off indoor sowings into modules 5cm (2") apart, thin outdoor sowing to 5cm (2") apart. Harden off indoor plants before transplanting out. Transplant when about 15cm (6") tall spacing 60cm (24") apart. For the best Brussels sprouts, feed with a nitrogen fertilizer as per product instructions.
HANDY TIP
Make sure that soil is firm before planting out to ensure that the plants stay upright during winter winds. Pick lower sprouts first moving up the stems, letting high ones continue maturing until required. When all sprouts on plant are picked leave plant in site. It will produce delicious greens which are used like cabbage.
