Squash - Autumn Crown
Bred specifically for the UK climate, Autumn Crown Squash combines the best characteristics of colour of a butternut type along with the familiar shape of Crown Prince. This variety of squash has an excellent storing quality and produces a gorgeous aroma similar to that of a melon when cut. Squash is a delicious vegetable when roasted and can also be used to make tasty soups.
Sow 2 or 3 seeds into a 7cm pot in a greenhouse at 22°C. Late May sowings can be made by placing seeds 5cm apart direct into soil or a cold frame. As soon as greenhouse seedlings have produced 2 rough leaves prick off into individual 7cm pots. Gradually harden off before planting out 60cm between plants. Only plant out when all danger of frost has passed. Ready to harvest from late September to October.
