Kohl Rabi - Green Delicacy
White Delicacy has pale green skin with pure white flesh within. It boasts a fine texture and flavourl and is the earliest of all the varieties. This alien-looking vegetable is delicious when roasted.Kohl Rabi is a member of the brassica family. With the stem just above ground level, it swells to form the crisp, juicy vegetable with a texture much like Water Chestnut. Its flavour is much like that of a turnip but milder.
Sow the seeds from March to June, thinly in a well prepared seed bed, in shallow drills 1.5cm deep in rows spaced 30cm apart. Alternatively sow two seeds per cell in modules under glass at 13Â°C. Sow seed in succession to prolong the cropping period. Outdoor sowings should be thinned out to 15cm apart and grown on to maturity. As soon as glasshouse seedlings show their first pair of leaves thin modules to one seedling per cell. Gradually harden off before planting out to the same spacings as detailed above. Harvest when young from the size of a golf ball up to the size of a tennis ball, from June onwards.
