Swede - Ruby
Bred for extra sweetness Ruby Swede has dark purple-skinned globe shaped roots with creamy yellow flesh and is a real useful and hardy winter vegetable with good resistance to powdery mildew. It cooks very well with an outstanding flavour and is an AGM winner that is also very winter hardy.
Sow direct, from May to June, outdoors into shallow drills 2cm deep and 45cm between the rows. Gradually thin the seedlings as they grow to a final spacing of 10-15cm apart. Water regularly to avoid woody roots. A very hardy vegetable so can be harvested as required. Ready to harvest from October onwards.
