Basil - Aristotle
Nothing adds flavour to cooked dishes and salads so simply as freshly picked herbs from your garden. All the basil family are very frost tender. Aristotle Basil is a highly aromatic basil which forms an almost perfect round ball of leaves making it perfect for a patio or window sill.
Sow the seed all year round in small trays of compost, 0.5cm deep, and lightly cover the seeds with a sprinkling of compost. Place at a temperature of 15-20°C. Prick out seedlings individually to 7cm pots one large enough to handle. Grow on in cooler conditions, then gradually harden off plants in a cold frame before planting out after all risk of frost has passed. Transplant to final positions 30cm apart or into larger containers, or grow a few in pots on a light windowsill all year round, harvesting as required.
