Wild Flower – Pennyroyal - Mentha Pulegium
Pennyroyal is part of the mint family, hence its strong peppermint flavour. It has small leaves and should not be taken by pregnant women or people with kidney problems because of some of its properties. It can grow to a height of about 60cm.
Sow outside in April when the soil is dry. Sow on the surface of a well prepared seed bed, lightly covering with fine soil. Keep moist until germination takes place. Root cuttings can be placed 15cm apart. Grow as you would any member of the mint family. Transplant to moist, rich soil in partial shade, especially where it's hot or the sun is intense. It can be propagated by root divisions and by cuttings once it is established.
