Leek - Jolant
This is a very early variety with a mild flavour.This type can be used for mini-veg or grow on to harvest from August onwards. It grows vigorously and gives a high-density stem.
Sow the seeds from March to April, thinly in a well prepared seed bed in shallow drills 2cm (¾") deep in short rows. They can also be sown earlier in trays under glass for exhibition work. Thin seedlings as they grow to 5cm (2") apart. When the seedlings are about the thickness of a pencil, they should be lifted and transplanted. Make a hole 15cm (6") deep with a rod, trim off the ends of roots and tops off the leaves, drop into hole and fill with water. Do not fill the hole with soil. To save hard labour, try sowing 3 seeds to a module and transplanting into growing site and gradually earth up during the season.
