Dwarf Bean - Sansoucy
This dwarf bean is a bit of a revolution, the beans are held high above the foliage so are easier to find, easier to pick and certainly cleaner than those that drag on the floor. The beans are packed with vitamins, and the plants are immune to many diseases. Give them a go!
Sow outdoors in your vegetable plot or in pots indoors and plant out. Before sowing, prepare the ground well by raking until the soil is fine and crumbly and remove any large stones. Sow seed outdoors in warm soil, sowing 2-3 seeds in a cluster 5cm deep, allowing 20cm between each cluster, and space 45cm between the rows. Alternatively early sowings can be made under glass, for planting out once they have germinated and have at least 2 pairs of leaves. Simply fill 7.5cm pots with a good, free-draining, damp, seed compost and sow seeds 2.5cm deep in the compost and place in a warm place at 18-21C. Plant early crops under cloches to help them establish. Hoe regularly and keep well-watered and mulched during dry periods. Pick beans regularly whilst still young and tender for the best flavour.
