Onion - Globo
This variety produces large, deep globed, straw coloured bulbs. Given space, the bulbs can attain a large size, but for general kitchen use, they average 300g and have a mild flavour. Slice for salads and sandwiches, and many culinary dishes. Bulbs are not suited for long storage.
Before sowing, prepare the ground by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones. Make shallow channels (drills) in the soil 30cm apart. Thin out the plants to about 7-10cm apart when the seedlings are large enough to handle for general kitchen use, and allow 15cm apart from larger bulbs.
