Broccoli - Brokali Apollo
Here’s a chance to grow a tasty and nutritious, distinctly flavoured, tender-stem broccoli at a fraction of the price of imported supermarket produce. This is a unique cross between selections of broccoli and Chinese kale which produces a plant with soft and tender stems and flower buds that you are sure to enjoy.
Start off in a seed tray indoors and plant out in your vegetable plot. Fill a seed tray with good, free-draining, damp, seed compost. Sow seed on the surface of the compost and cover with a sprinkling of dry vermiculite or finely sieved compost. Place the seed and tray in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag and keep at around 15-18C until the seeds germinate. This will take about 7-10 days. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 7.5cm pots or multi-cell trays. Plant out once the plants are approximately 10-15cm tall, into well-prepared soil allowing 75cm between each plant and 90cm between each row of plants.
