Cabbage - Derby Day
This is an early ball-head summer cabbage which has good resistance against bolting.
Sow seeds mid-February in pots or trays under glass, then transplant outdoors for earliest heads in June. Alternatively sow seeds outdoors from mid-March to end of May, thinly in a prepared seedbed, 13mm deep. Transplant when large enough to handle, about 5 weeks from sowing, in to well-prepared soil in a sunny spot, allowing 38cm each way between plants. Plant firmly and water in. Compact plants allow closer spacing and less wasted outer leaves. Later sowing from end of May will produce quality heads to October.
