Cabbage - Wheelers Imperial
This variety is well known for over 100 years for its superb reliability. With a neat, compact habit, Cabbage 'Wheelers Imperial' produces firm, well-flavoured, pointed, tender hearts for a spring harvest, or can be cropped as 'spring greens' from February. This traditional heritage variety is also suitable for spring sowing for summer and autumn cutting. Height: 30cm. Spread: 40cm.
Sow from July to August for overwintering. Sow seed thinly, 1cm deep in drills 23cm apart in soil raked to a fine tilth and which contains plenty of sowing mix or manure. It may also be beneficial to rake in 100g/sq. m. of a balanced fertiliser. It can also be sown during spring for summer harvesting. Transplant when seedlings are large enough to handle, spacing 30-38cm apart each way or at 10cm apart for spring greens. Water regularly, especially in dry periods. Hoe between plants as required.
