Onion - Rouge Long De Florence
Italian Onion 'Rouge Long de Florence' produces traditional torpedo shaped bulbs with stunning, deep purple red skin. This heritage red onion is mild and sweet - perfect for adding colour and flavour to salads or stir fries, and great for pickling too. This versatile variety can be harvested early as spring onions or left longer in the ground to form mature bulbs. Height: 45cm. Spread: 10cm.
Sow from March to August for spring onions, and from March to April as a bulb onion. Sow seed liberally in broad drills for pulling as spring/bunching onions, 12mm deep, in drills 30cm apart. If sowing for mature bulbs sow thinly. There is no need to thin seedlings for spring onions. For mature bulbs, thin to 7cm. Keep well watered.
