Parsnip - The Student
This is a classic heritage variety producing long, quite broad shouldered, tapering roots with smooth skin and creamy flesh of mild, pleasant flavour. The roots have only a small central core, and it has good resistance to canker.
Sow from April to May, as earlier sowings from mid February risk poor germination. Sow seed thinly, 1cm deep in drills 30cm apart. Sow clusters of 3 or 4 seeds every 20cm and thin out to the strongest seedling after germination. Germination can sometimes be very slow.
