Dwarf Bean - Pencil Pod Wax
This is one of the first stringless, round podded, waxpods, which was introduced at around 1900. It is quite a vigorous plant producing golden yellow pods around 12-18cm long. The pods are black seeded and reliable tor earlier sowings and throughout the summer.
Sow seed mid-April in pots indoors, plant out from late May, or sow early May to July outdoors. Can also be sown in March for protected growing in a greenhouse and harvest from June. Sow 4-5cm deep in well-prepared soil. Allow 15-20cm between plants and 45cm between rows. Germination and establishment can he poor in cold wet soils, in this case raise plants indoors in modules for later planting out.
