Climbing Bean - Selma Zebra
This highly decorative French Bean makes a fabulous talking point in the vegetable garden, or even in your flower borders. Climbing Bean 'Selma Zebra' is a T&M reintroduction from 30 years ago, and still as eye catching as ever. The unusual marbled pods are particularly early to mature in July and continue to set pods throughout the summer. These tasty beans turn green when cooked.
Sow mid-April indoors, late April to July outdoors. Sow seed 5cm deep in 7-5cm pots or trays of good, free-draining, seed sowing mix. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag and place at 18-20C until after germination which takes 7-10 days. Can also be sown direct outdoors once the soil has warmed, sow 15cm apart 6cm deep and in rows 45cm apart. Gradually acclimatise indoor sown plants to outdoor conditions for 7-10 days before planting out after all risk of frost, against canes or netting. Hoe regularly and keep well watered. Mulch during dry periods.
