Carrot - St. Valery
This is a prize-winner on the show bench as well as in the kitchen. It is main crop variety producing heavy, long tapering roots of superb flavour. The roots store well over winter, and are ideal for winter stews, casseroles and soups.
Sow from April to June at 4 week intervals. Sow thinly, 1cm deep in drills 30cm apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially during dry periods. When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 3-4cm apart for larger and heavier roots.
