Dwarf Bean – Royalty
Attractive purple flowers and pods and dark green leaves provide for a truly eye-catching 'ornamental edible'. It produces an abundance of 12cm stringless pods over a long picking season, which turn dark green when cooked. Height: 35-45cm.
Sow from mid April in pots indoors, planting out from late May, or sow early from May to July outdoors. It can also be sown in March for protected growing in a greenhouse and harvested from June. Sow 4-5cm deep in well prepared soil. Allow 15-20cm between plants and 45cm between rows. Germination and establishment can be poor in cold wet soils, in this case raise plants indoors in modules for later planting out. Flowers are self-pollinating (no insects required). Pick regularly whilst young to give highest yields and extend the season.
