Aubergine - Pinstripe
This patio edible is ornamental as well as productive in containers, or planted in growbags in the greenhouse. It features a compact, dwarf habit, and virtually spineless plants producing a good crop of small, deeper round, purple fruits with white striping.
Sow seed from February to April on the surface of free-draining sowing mix and cover with about 6mm of sowing mix. Place in a propagator at 18-21C until germination, which takes about 10-14 days. Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm pots and maintain temperature at 15C. Plant into containers, growbags, or acclimatise plants for a few days if planting outdoors in a sunny, fertile garden once frost risk has passed. Feed weekly with a high potash tomato feed once first fruits have set. It is not necessary to pinch out growth or to side shoot.
