Broccoli - Redhead
This is an improvement on traditional forms of purple sprouting. Broccoli Redhead are seeds in the RHS Vegetable Collection and produce a more vigorous plant with large primary heads along with good sized, secondary shoots for picking over an 8 week period through from March to April.
Sow seeds mid-May to June. Sow seeds thinly in a prepared seedbed, 1cm deep, in rows 45cm apart. Keep well-watered and cover with fine netting at all stages, to deter birds and cabbage caterpillar attack. Transplant when large enough to handle into well prepared, firm soil allowing 75cm between plants. Plant firmly. Water plants until established. Earth up and stake as plant develops. Grows well in fertile, moist, rich well drained soil.
