Broad Bean - The Sutton
This dwarf, compact broad bean is absolutely perfect for small gardens and offers bumper crop of 15cm pods, each packed with 5 deliciously tender beans. It is ideal for successional sowings to give continuous picking through the season.
Sow directly outdoors. Prepare the soil by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones. Sow seed 5cm deep in double rows, allowing 23cm between plants, and 30cm between each row. Pinch out the tips of the plants when in full flower to help the pods swell and to help reduce infestation of blackfly. Pick frequently when pods are well-filled but still tender.
