Spinach - Perpetual
This variety produces a continuous crop of quality, succulent leaves ideal for autumn and winter cropping. It hardly ever runs to seed in the first season and therefore good on dry ground. It is full of nutrients and goodness.
Sow direct outdoors in an open sunny position. Prepare the soil by raking until is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones. Sow seed thinly, 1cm deep in broad drills which are 30cm apart. Thin seedlings to 5cm apart when large enough to handle. Trim the roots off the thinnings and cook or use in salads. Water freely through the season. Harvest by picking a few leaves, snapping them off close to the ground from several plants rather than completely stripping one. If there are more leaves ready than you can use, it is still best to pick them to encourage a steady supply of young green leaves.
