Spinach - Medania
A very popular, easy to grow and reliable variety, Spinach Medania produces an abundance of dark green leaves. It is long standing if grown in good, moist soil which is kept watered during dry weather. Spinach Medania is ideal for successional sowing to give a longer cropping period. The broad, deep green leaves are ideal for freezing. Popeye was right, you can eat no better vegetable than spinach. It is rich In vitamins A and C, beta-carotene, lutein and dietary fibre.
Sow seeds from March to July outdoors thinly, 1cm deep in broad drills, 30cm apart. It can be sown under cloches or frames in September. Thin seedlings to 5cm apart when large enough to handle, thinnings will be suitable for use in salads, Harvest leaves as required, picking only a few from each plant. Keep plants well-watered during hot, dry weather.
