Leek - Oarsman F1 Hybrid
A superb garden variety, Leek Oarsman has good early vigour, bulking up quickly, with dark, erect foliage and uniform pure white, long stems with no sign of bulbing. It has midseason maturity with very good rust and bolting tolerance, keeping in good condition over a long period until required for the kitchen.
Sow seeds 3mm deep in good seed sowing compost in March. Germination takes 10-14 days at 13-15C. When large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings to boxes and when well grown gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out in late May or early June. Plant 15x38cm apart, making 10-15cm deep holes. Earth up the stems as growth develops and harvest in late autumn and through the winter.
