Primrose - Arctic Mixed
This is an extremely winter hardy Primrose that's compact and floriferous, in a cheerful range of colours set against dark green foliage. It is excellent for borders or containers, adding a mass of colour from late winter to early spring, whatever the weather. The dark foliage looks amazing on frosty mornings. Height: 10-15cm.
Sow February to July. Place seed on the surface of a good free draining compost and cover with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Seal container inside a polythene bag and place at 15 to 20C until after germination which usually takes 10 to 30 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or pots. Grow on in cooler conditions and give plenty of water. Plant out in autumn, 23cm apart. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade.
