Petunia - Purple Velvet F1
This is the best ever basket petunia from seed! 'Purple Velvet' out-performs expensive cutting raised Surfinia petunias. Trailing stems, up to 1m in length, are continuously smothered in velvety, purple blooms until the first frosts. It is excellent for baskets and containers. It can also be planted in borders where it will make very effective ground cover.
Sow from February to April at 21-27C on the surface of a good seed compost and gently firm down. Keep soil moist but not wet. Do not exclude light, sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Germination usually takes 10-21 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow on in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 1-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 3cm apart in a sunny spot on light well drained soil.
