Sunflower - Moonwalker
A variation on the usual tall sunflowers, "Moonwalker" makes tall branching plants from 1.5-2m tall with delightful, large, soft yellow flowers with a contrasting dark centre. It is excellent as back of the border or screening plants. The flowering season can be prolonged by staggered sowings or pinching out the plants at an early stage. Happy in most garden soils and full sun, it flowers in the summer. Height: 120-150cm.
Sow spring to early summer outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 12mm deep in rows 45cm apart. Thin out to 3cm apart, when large enough to handle. They prefer a sunny open site but will grow in most sites and soils. In order to spread the flowering over a longer period make 2 sowings allowing 14 days between them, or pinch out the growing point of some of the plants at the 6 leaf stage.
