Christmas Rose - Helleborus Niger
The Christmas Rose has wonderful white flowers which are among the earliest blooms in the garden.
The seeds need cold to germinate. When you sow the seed from September, place them outdoors in a cold frame over winter and them move into a warm place to germinate. Sometimes they do not germinate even after this treatment, but do not give up as they may germinate the following spring. At other times of year the seeds can be placed in the fridge to simulate the cold. Germination is erratic so be patient, a bit of experience will be helpful. It is worth the effort!
