Tomato - Henderson's Winsall
This classic heirloom beefsteak tomato originated in Hungary but crossed the Atlantic and was renamed by Peter Henderson in his 1926 seed catalogue. The attractive fruit are large, with meaty flesh, a sweet flavour and are excellent for use in salads and sandwiches.
Sow in pots from February onwards. Sow seeds on the surface, cover lightly. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Hold containers in warm conditions until shoots appear, which may take from 3-10 days. Move seedlings immediately to bright light conditions, such as a south-facing window. Inadequate light is a frequent cause of failure of young seedlings. Pot on after first true leaves appear. At about the time of last frost, set out into grow bags. Do not allow the plants to get too cold.
