Organic Lettuce - Red Salad Bowl
This is sometimes referred to as Oak leaf type. It features large heads made up of a mass of serrated leaves of dark red for individual picking.
Early sowings can be made indoors under glass at 13C in either trays or modules. Thin as they grow to 5cm apart or to single seedlings to a cell. Harden off quickly before planting out 30cm apart each way. Later sowings should be made direct into the growing site in drills 2cm deep, 30cm between rows. Thin out as they grow, to 30cm eventual spacing. Sow at fortnightly intervals to ensure a continuous supply.
