About JustSeed

JustSeed started back in 2008 with the two of us, Sue Black and Nick Pengelly, packing seeds around the kitchen table between other work, family life and everything else that was going on.

We're both keen gardeners and growing from seed has always been part of what we do. What started as a small partnership selling seeds on eBay gradually grew into JustSeed, with our own website, a much larger range and a great team helping us along the way.

A lot has changed since those early days, but we're still gardeners selling seeds to other gardeners.

We're Gardeners Too

When we're not working with seeds, you'll usually still find us somewhere in the garden.

We grow vegetables for the kitchen and shows, fill the patio with pots and grow plenty of flowers. Like most gardeners, we're always trying something different and not everything goes quite according to plan.

Nick has also competed successfully at national level growing giant vegetables and holds a National Collection of Cheiridopsis with Plant Heritage a plant  conservation charity— this is an unusual group of winter-growing succulents that has become something of a long-term passion.

That practical growing experience is important to us. It's why you'll increasingly find our own growing advice throughout JustSeed. We want to share what we've learnt over the years and help make growing from seed a little easier, particularly if you're just getting started.

Seeds for Every Gardener

We stock a huge range because gardeners — and gardens — are all different.

You'll find familiar vegetables, flowers and herbs alongside unusual varieties you might not come across everywhere else. Some are straightforward choices for beginners, while others are there for gardeners who fancy trying something a little different.

Our The Difference is JustSeed range is available in different packet sizes too. Sometimes you only need a few seeds for a couple of pots; other times you want enough for an allotment, a large garden or to share with friends.

Alongside our own range, we also stock seeds from a number of well-known gardening brands, as well as other useful garden supplies and gifts.

We don't expect everyone to grow in the same way — we'd rather give you plenty of choice and help you find what suits you.

The People Behind JustSeed

JustSeed has grown considerably since those early days around the kitchen table, and today  we have a great team led by Phil Jones.

We want JustSeed to be a good place to work as well as a good place to buy seeds. Looking after each other, enjoying what we do and maintaining a sensible balance between work and life are important to us. We were delighted in 2026 to win an Ebay Up and Running Grand.

Gardening itself can be a wonderful way to slow down, get outside and enjoy doing something practical. That's something many of us in the team appreciate in our own lives too.

And although the business is considerably bigger than it was in 2008, we haven't lost sight of the friendly customer service that helped us grow in the first place.

Growing with Confidence

We're registered and inspected by DEFRA (registration number 7291) and are organically registered (AP23164) and inspected by the Soil Association.

Those things matter, but we also think confidence comes from being able to find good information when you need it.

That's why we're putting more of our own growing experience into Help Me Grow, What to Sow and our growing guides — helping you choose the right seeds in the first place and then giving you practical advice to get them growing.
