Beetroot - Detroit

This variety was introduced nearly a century ago and is still one of the favourites for main crop sowing. It produces beetroots with deep red flesh and a marvellous flavour, which stores well. They are easy to grow and much more tasty than fresh shop bought beetroot. It should be harvested just at the right time when the size of a tennis ball.

Sow the seed from March to July, thinly in shallow drills 1.5cm with 30cm between rows. Do not transplant. Thin the seedlings gradually as they grow to an eventual spacing of 10cm. Harvest from June to October.
