Lettuce - Winter Density
Winter Density as the name suggests is a semi-cos type with outstanding winter hardiness. It produces dark green heads with crisp leaves. This variety can be brought on a few weeks earlier by placing cloches over the crop in January and February.
Sow the seed from the end of February to July. Sow seeds direct into growing site thinly along rows, 1.5cm deep , spaced 30cm apart . Later sowings can be made in a cold frame. Thin seedlings once large enough to handle to 30cm apart. In colder areas some protection with cloches may be required. Cold frame sowings can be transplanted to the growing site in spring, spaced as above.
