Pleurisy Root (Butterfly Milkweed) - Asclepias Tuberosa
Butterfly Milkweed is a handsome, fleshy rooted, perennial plant. It grows upto 50cm tall and produces umbels of deep yellow and orange flowers from July through to September. It is beloved by butterflies. From early days this native American herb has been regarded as a valuable medicinal plant.
Sow in December to March under cover at about 18C, transplant plant into individual pots when large enough to handle. Plant out in the spring. When cultivated, It does not like being disturbed, and prefers a well-drained light, sandy, humus rich, or peaty soil in a sunny position.
