Shaggy bob ( or doing the Chelsea Chop)

RHS Virtual gardens are now available to view online. This time of year usually hosts the Chelsea Flower show - instigating the 'Chelsea Chop'. The weather this year will delay the snipping and pruning but it is a good time when the rain ceases to cut back some perennials to make sturdier plants.

Amongst others these include artemisia (mugworts), asters, coreopsis, echinacea (coneflowers) and rudbeckia, sedum, phlox and nepeta (catmints). Cut back up to half to encourage new strong growth.

Tip: prune half of your plants as this will delay flowering and so extend the flowering season.. Unpruned these will flower earlier whilst the other chopped half will flower later .
