GROW WITH CONFIDENCE
Direct sowing simply means putting the seed into the soil where you want the plant to grow. There's no potting on or moving young seedlings later, making it one of the simplest ways to start growing from seed.
Remove weeds and break up any large lumps before sowing. You don't need perfectly prepared soil, but young seedlings will get off to a much better start if they aren't immediately competing with established weeds.
Follow the instructions for your chosen seed because sowing depths vary. Larger seeds can usually be covered with more soil, while small flower seeds often need only a light covering. Don't worry about getting everything absolutely perfect.
Keep the soil reasonably moist while the seeds germinate and young plants establish. Water gently so you don't wash small seeds away, particularly during dry spring weather.
