Echinacea - Purple Coneflower
Echinacea Purpurea (Purple Coneflower) makes for a splendid sight when planted in clumps. The blooms produced are large, purple-red flowers with orange centres. The flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinators. This drought tolerant variety makes for a lovely cut flower and flowers from June to September at an approximate height of 90-100cm.
Sow from January to June in pots or trays in a greenhouse at 18-21°C, lightly cover seed with vermiculite and keep soil lightly moist but not wet. Transplant into 7.5cm pots. Then 6-8 weeks after germination transplant outside at 30 x 30cm spacings. Flowers from July onwards.
