Basil - Sweet - Ocimum Basilicum Genovese
This is the most popular variety with a strong scent. It can be used is pasta sauces and salads, especially with tomato, and combines well with garlic.
Sow indoors in soil-less compost in trays or small pots from April. Cover with glass and maintain at 25C until germination takes place. Prick off into small pots when large enough to handle and reduce temperature to 20C. Alternatively sow outside after mid-June. Grow in a rich soil, and water at midday when hot to allow the soil to dry before the evening.
