Broad Bean - Superaguadulce
This is a classic autumn sowing variety with attractive, bright green pods, reaching up to 25cm long. The high yielding, bushy plants are compact, resilient and extremely winter hardy. Superaguadulce is a good source of vitamin B1, folate and fibre.
Sow outdoors where they are to crop, 5cm deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. To make best use of space sow seeds 23cm apart in a wide row, in a zig zag pattern leaving a space of 60cm between each row. Seedlings usually appear in 14-24 days. Do not sow in very cold weather or when soil is waterlogged. Sowings benefit from cloche protection in the early stages of growth or where grown in exposed locations. Water well until plants are established. Protection from birds is advisable when plants are young. Pinch out growing tips when first pods are approximately 10cm long, this encourages an early crop and helps deter blackfly.
