HELP ME GROW

Easy Seeds to Grow in Pots

You don't need a large garden to start growing from seed. A few pots and containers can give you plenty of room for vegetables, herbs and flowers. We've picked some straightforward choices that are easy to get started with and won't need a vegetable plot or large border.

GROW WITH CONFIDENCE

Growing in Pots

Growing in containers is a simple way to get started. Match the pot to the eventual size of the plant, use fresh compost and make sure excess water can drain away. You can start with just one or two pots and add more as you discover what you enjoy growing.

Choose a Sensible Pot

You don't need expensive containers, but make sure they're large enough for what you're growing and have drainage holes in the bottom. Small crops need relatively little room, while larger vegetables need considerably more compost.

Keep an Eye on Watering

Pots dry out faster than garden soil, particularly during warm weather. Check the compost regularly and water thoroughly when needed, but don't leave containers permanently sitting in water.

Start Small

Don't feel you need to fill the whole patio on your first attempt. A pot of herbs, a few flowers or one productive vegetable is enough to get started. See what grows well in your space and add something different next time.
