Tomato - Super Marmande
The favourite large-fruited tomato of Provence, Tomato Super Marmande is distinguished by its irregular cushion shaped fruit and touch of pink on the shoulders. Super Marmande is large, juicy, well flavoured fruit and a great improvement over an already excellent variety.
Sow seeds in spring 1.5mm deep. Germination usually takes 6-14 days at 24-27C. Transplant the seedlings when large enough to handle into 8cm pots. Grow on under cooler conditions and when about 20cm tall, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions and plant out 45cm apart with 75cm between the rows. Provide support and tie in regularly. Remove side shoots and restrict the plant to one main stem. This is a semi determinate variety, if growth ends in a flower truss, select the nearest side shoot and train up as the main stem. In late summer remove the growing tip to hasten ripening.
