Nasturtium - Crimson Emperor
The vibrant dark crimson blooms contrast beautifully with lush green semi-trailing foliage. A lax, spreading habit makes crimson emperor ideal for planting as ground cover in borders or allowed to tumble over walls and fences. Equally at home in containers or baskets, this stunning nasturtium was exhibited at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show. Height: 30cm. Spread: 2m.
Sow outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 20mm deep, in rows 30cm apart. For earlier flowering sow seed 1cm deep, 3 seeds per 7.5cm pot, in free-draining, damp seed compost. Place at 20-29C until after germination. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out after risk of frost. Before planting into containers, ensure plants are well rooted in their pots. When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 23cm apart. For early sown plants, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out after risk of frost. Before planting into containers, ensure plants are well rooted. They flower most freely in full sun and poor dryish soils. Before planting in containers make sure they are well rooted in their pots.
