How to Grow Aubergine ‘Jewel Jet’
Sow seeds indoors from February to April in a heated propagator or warm greenhouse. Maintain a temperature of 22–25°C for reliable germination. Sow seeds thinly and cover lightly with fine compost.
Pot on seedlings once large enough to handle. For sales, plants are best finished in 1.5 L pots, then potted on into 2 L or larger containers for fruiting. Grow plants in a greenhouse or warm, sheltered outdoor position once all risk of frost has passed.
Provide good, consistent feeding throughout the growing season to support continuous flowering and fruiting. Water regularly and avoid letting plants dry out.
Harvest fruits as soon as they reach full size, while still young and glossy. Avoid leaving fruits too long, as overripe aubergines can develop bitterness.
