The aromatic seeds can be used for flavouring. This annual grows to 15-30cm.

Start under glass in spring. When the soil is warm, harden off and transplant carefully to a sunny aspect, planting out 15cm (6 in) apart. Close planting helps support the heavy seedheads when they mature. The plants bloom in June and July. The seeds are normally ready four months after planting. Cut them when brown and dry indoors.
