Spectacular flower heads appear to float on long slender stems above lush clumps of strap-like leaves. Exotic plants for sunny borders and patio containers. For indoor sowing
When February to May.
Where In pots or trays of moist compost.
How Cover lightly with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover pots with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at 13-15°C.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough to handle transplant to individual 7.5cm pots. Grow on in a cold frame or cool greenhouse. Gradually acclimatise plants to outside conditions from late May onwards (avoid frosts). Transplant 35cm apart in flowering position or into large patio pots.
Flowers June to October, plants may take 2-3 years to establish before flowering. A liquid feed in late spring may be beneficial
