An established favourite, this tasty, ‘autumn king’ type has long, tapering roots and is specially bred to deter carrot root fly. For outdoor sowing
When March to July.
Where In a prepared seed bed.
How Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with 1.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 14-21 days. For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks.
Care When harvesting, select alternate young carrots from the row, allowing the remainder to develop fully. No other thinning is needed if sown thinly. Keep well watered to prevent the roots splitting. Keep weed free at all times.
Harvest June to October. Lift remainder in October, remove soil from roots and store in dry sand. Make sure soil is cultivated to a good depth.
