A wonderful half-hardy evergreen often grown for use in cut flower displays. Also adds a stunning silvery contrast to mixed patio containers. For indoor sowing
When February to May.
Where In pots of seed compost.
How Sow thinly, do not cover seed with compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Keep at approx. 20?C. Seedlings appear 14-21 days. If germination is erratic, place pots in the fridge for 4 weeks, then return to the warmth.
Care Grow on at approx. 15?C. When large enough transplant singly to small pots. Gradually acclimatise plants to outside conditions from late May onwards (avoid frosts). Transplant into large containers. Can be pruned to 50cm tall in spring to remain compact and bushy. Alternatively, plant out individually into a sunny, sheltered position 60cm apart. Provide winter protection. Once established will overwinter successfully outdoors in mild regions.
Flowers Foliage plant. Cut a few stems from
each plant, allowing it to regrow for
further cuts. Container grown plants can be moved
to overwinter in a frost-free location
