An improved Italian Black Kale, bred for the UK climate. It has outstanding tolerance to cold, resistance to bolting and a wonderful, rich flavour. For outdoor sowing
When April to June for mature plants and to September for baby leaf.
Where In a prepared seed bed.
How Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 14-28 days. For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks.
Care For mature plants, when 5-6 leaves are formed, transplant to final position 45cm apart. Firm plants in well. For cut and come again baby leaves, thin to 10cm apart. Cut when approx. 7.5cm tall, they will regrow for 3-4 cuts.
Harvest June to December for baby leaf, or September to March for mature plants.
For indoor sowing
When March to May (to harvest as mature plants).
Where In trays of moist compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost and firm gently. Keep at approx. 15°C and keep moist.
Care Acclimatise to outside conditions then transplant to final position 45cm apart.
Harvest September to March. Pick a few leaves from each plant. Use young flower shoots as broccoli.
